The social and economic empowerment of women is Afrikable's main objective. We see it not only as a means of achieving gender equality in itself, but also as a fundamental tool necessary for the overall economic development of developing countries.

We follow the Women’s Empowerment Principles developed through a partnership between UN Women and the United Nations Global Compact:

  • Establish high-level corporate leadership for gender equality.
  • Treat all women and men fairly at work—respect and support human rights and nondiscrimination.
  • Ensure the health, safety and well-being of all women and men workers.
  • Promote education, training and professional development for women.
  • Implement enterprise development, supply chain and marketing practices that empower women.
  • Promote equality through community initiatives and advocacy.
  • Measure and publicly report on progress to achieve gender equality.

We promote values such as the autonomy, leadership and decision-making of women through participation in fair trade groups, expanding and improving their economic opportunities and ensuring they reach their full potential.

Workers who take part in the project can be safe in the knowledge that their children can attend school and increase their potential whilst they are at work, allowing women to gain independence and encouraging them to be active in the community.

As well as employment, we offer women training, literacy classes, pre-school education for children, adult learning scholarships, and other services such as access to medical care and clean water.

The women who join us attend Discussion Groups, activities to raise their awareness of the different social issues affecting them, such as family planning, domestic violence, basic financial literacy and information about their rights.

With the Women's Empowerment as our main objective, we have developed programmes in the following key areas:
